GG Optix was born out of a long day at a country concert in Atlantic City. Like any good story, am I right?
Long story short, a few too many adult sodas led to a headache, drowsiness and a pair of expensive sunglasses lost somewhere in the Atlantic Ocean.
The next day, before hitting that long drive home in the sun, my brain was hankering for some shade.
What’s the next natural move? Head to the local sunglass store.
While browsing, I discovered it’s impossible to find really good sunglasses at a reasonable price.
The salesman tells me “Hey you’re really going to like these.” Well, at $300/pair I damn well better like them!
So I left the store empty handed, dealt with the sun glare on the way home and then began researching what makes sunglasses sooo expensive??
The sunglass industry is essentially a monopoly and one large company controls everything. I thought to myself, premier sunglasses should not cost anyone an arm and a leg.
So we dove right in and started designing our own frames online. Once we made a few designs we reached out to a manufacturer of frames to produce what we only had on Photoshop.
One sample received and GG Optix was Born.
After going through multiple shipments of mediocre materials such as Tac and Polycarbonate, we were able to nail down some of the best material in the industry.
We now have the majority of our sunglasses made with the premium materials known as Trivex. Trivex is superior in optics to Polycarbonate & Tac and also has way more strength than most other materials.
The raw cost of these materials, which many of the designer brands are using, does not match up with the final prices they are charging their customers. Is making a profit a crime? No. But charging 500%+ is a little outlandish. That just reaffirmed that we were onto something…
